Attempted attack foiled in Sweden
Two Swedes suspected sabotage arrested. One of them tried to enter a nuclear power plant in south-east Sweden with small quantities of a powerful explosive.
Two men suspected of having prepared a sabotage a nuclear power plant in south-east of Sweden were arrested Wednesday, May 21 by police after one of them tried to enter the building with small quantities of a powerful explosive.
“The two men brought in for questioning this morning have now been detained,” said Sven-Erik Karlsson, spokesman of the police County Kalmar. They are suspected of having prepared a sabotage, he said.
The police were notified shortly before 08:00 local time (06h00 GMT) by the Central Oskarshamn, located south of Stockholm along the Baltic Sea, that traces of explosives had been discovered on a welder at a control within the establishment.
“They told us that a welder who came to do a job had been arrested during a security check carried out unexpectedly. It was carrying small quantities of TATP, a highly explosive substance,” said Karlsson.
