Chemical cross-linking of marine adhesives from Blue mussel, Green algae, and Barnacle are investigated with the use of surface sensitive analytical methods. These methods are also used in biomaterial projects at our lab. In the Barnacle project we investigate a family of extremely potent anti-Barnacle active substances, called Catemines. We are trying to clone the catemine receptor and make expression at the surface of yeast cells and use the yeast cells as a base for a high through put through screening assay for new catemines. With time, we hope we can contribute with a new generation of low-toxic marine paints.
