Description
Forest Products Industry research in the Northern countries is currently in a
phase of shifting its focus towards the direction of biorefinery/biomaterials,
while at the same time trying to maintain links with shorter term research
issues to which the industry could reap faster benefits. The objective of the
VINN Excellence Centre BiMaC Innovation is to become an internationally leading
biomaterials science centre, spearheading the development of new renewable and
sustainable materials based on wood fibres and other renewable polymers,
increasing the competitiveness of the industry and contributing to innovations
in the forest products sector.
The Centre will promote sustainable growth in society through efficient use of
wood-based resources. In collaboration with the industrial partners, there is a
focus on hitherto unsolved industrial problems, which are expected to be key
issues for sustainable industrial growth.
The current research programme is composed of four "Demonstrator Line Projects"
(DLPs). A demonstrator is a device or object to perform a demonstration of a
material or functionality. Every DLP contains (currently) between three and five
different activities named "Work Packages" (WPs). A DLP in turn always consists
of two or more scientific "Competence Areas", which are actively involved in the
DLP, thereby securing cross-disciplinary interactions.
