Sweden - a “model country” of heat pumps

Sweden is the “model country in terms of heat pump,” says Günter sound. The Director of Product Management at heat pump IVT Industries AB in Tranas, the Centre of the Bosch Thermotechnik GmbH for this product, has seen the development of the last few years: “With far are in Sweden-Europe’s most electric heat pumps in operation,” notes he noted, and there is some tangible reasons: marketable technology, acceptance in politics and society, competent partner and market economy. In 2005 alone there were 63,000 facilities around one third of Europe’s newly installed heat pumps in operation. The market share of heat pumps in newly built detached houses is 90 percent, “as high as in any other European country.” With a view to protecting the environment and the desire to use natural resources sparingly as possible deal, the heat pump against fossil fuels heating a considerable advantage, but uses them free and renewable energy resources - the heat from the ground, the outside air or exhaust — And turns them into space heating and hot water. The energy costs in the operation of the heat pump up to 50 percent below those of other heating systems, and this heat with the same needs.
Ups and downs of market development
If you look at the development of the market in recent years, is an up and down to see but nevertheless a trend towards more and more newly installed heat pumps.
Sound speaks of a pioneering phase at the end of the seventies, a setback in the early eighties, a “comeback” the mid-eighties, a lull early and mid-nineties, a growth phase from mid to late nineties, and what the current situation, a continued boom in the new millennium. Political factors and government decisions, the market decisively influence the situation. So it is in particular the effects of oil crisis, the only heat penmarkt open. The state promotes the pioneering phase of this technology with interest loans.
In 1979, Sweden in the first Erdsonde. Technical problems, poor product quality and faulty installations parallel to oil prices falling again call the apparent setback - fewer and fewer plants are sold, only a few producers survive. The mid-eighties, then the comeback. The Swedish economic growth increases, many new buildings, plus again increased oil prices and lower electricity costs. The manufacturers have learned and now offer better products and sophisticated service. The image of the heat pump is rising, thanks to some large projects, including an order of the Swedish royal family: Castle Drott-ningholm come heat pumps use the energy they receive from the lake in front of the castle. After the subsequent downturn by the end of the nineties, mainly due to the high unemployment rate, purchasing restraint and a lack of funding is due, the characters return to growth. Construction activity rises and decentralized systems are becoming more and more important: “The heat is technically mepumpe developed, the craft has a stable know-how and providing the facilities completed certain system and service offerings,” said Schall.
From growth to boom
Entering the new millennium is derived from the growth a “boom”. Due to the high oil prices and relatively low investment costs calculates the exchange, where appropriate, after three to five years. The number of newly installed heat pumps grows from around 23,000 in 2000 to about 36,000 units in 2001. The main reasons: exploding oil and gas prices and a trend towards energy conservation, as well as high taxes on all energy sources: “The power and a cheaper price make the transition to the heat pump for genuine alternative.” Heat pumps are working now and will continue to be highly efficient in heating increasingly renovations. The state supports the installation of heat pumps with a profile reference plants, on the other Swedish builders receive loans, tax breaks and subsidies. Thanks to have clear political signals there with the heat pump a sustainable technology some years ago “tailwind”. “In Germany this upturn is almost without government support, driven away from dependence on fossil fuels, high prices and the environmental thoughts. With the new installation of heat pumps, Germany,” said Schall, “in Sweden this year behind.”
