The Department of Applied Information Technology carries on high-quality
research with big relevance for industry, public sector, and for the society in
general. The research has strong interdisciplinary features and is often
conducted in close collaboration with industry and public sector. The wide range
of disciplins is quiet unique for departments within the IT area. Apart from the
researchers within informatics and applied IT, there are also researchers from
computing science, pedagogics, sociology, ethnology, economy, art, music, and
law present at the department.
The research at the department has an applied character in the sense of having a
focus on:
IT usage – to achieve innovative IT usage and to understand the effects of IT
usage at an individual, organizational and social level.
IT artefacts and applications – innovative and experimental design and
development of IT artefacts.
Processes and methods for development of IT artefacts and IT usage, as software
engineering or IT-management.
Specific application areas – IT usage within specific areas as pedagogics, art,
music, logistics, telematics, health and medical services to mention a few.
