The biggest self-portrait of the world: GPS art from Sweden

A seemingly monumental project, the Swedish design student Erik Nordenankar. He united modern technology and artistic creativity, a self-portrait drawing, which stretches across the globe. This he sent a suitcase on a journey in which a GPS sensor was contained. 55 days was the digital pen by DHL on all continents on before his starting point to get back Stockholm. Testimony of the miraculous journey stipulates, inter alia, a video, which tracked the journey (see below). “The suitcase was my pen, the world my paper,” says the four-clip. Episode involved on March 18, 2008 in Stockholm. On 26 June, after stopping on every continent, reached the suitcase Frankfurt. After a total of 55 Travel days permanent GPS was the self-portrait done then. The action is the final Nordenankars working with the Swedish design Beck’s high school. On the website of his university is scarce Nordenankar only in words on the project; most impressive tells the finished drawing the story. The artist points to the entanglement of art and advertising (probably also to finance the venture). “I gave me the technological support of our time being used to drawing the largest in the world, in conjunction with at the present time tailored advertising. A campaign that the consumer wants to see at the same time, and interesting enough that the people they want to show their friends. ” A rapid spread of the Internet, the artists also hoped - and will not be disappointed…
That is the action to a PR gag, is excluded, although this is the first look at the gigantic and yet delicate drawing near. DHL is in the video repeatedly present. If it turns out that the trip has not taken place, it would be more than counterproductive for the corporate image. The route is not only using the GPS drawing logs. The transport instructions, which Nordenankar DHL on their way there, as a PDF download.
UPDATE: From a user friendly, we were reminded that the artists now on his website declares that the whole project is fictional. A GPS suitcase was never on the journey; submitted to the budget of the artist claims not enough. Then, he is now on its website. DHL had told him the permit, a part of his film on company premises to rotate. After all: This is his final work.
