The Swedish model

Polars polaires: le modèle suédoisSweden has a long tradition of literature police. Since the 60s and the famous series of the Inspector Beck, published by 10/18 by the tandem Maj Sjowall and Per Whaloo, many writers have achieved international recognition. Based almost always on thorough investigations, the Swedish thrillers often filigree order to highlight the causes of crime and the importance of the human factor. Romans procedures, but also novels critical embedded in a social reality far removed from the image of successful model nordique. The master
Thus, Henning Mankell, the undisputed master of its kind in Sweden, we propose an inspector irascible, disillusioned and lonely, Kurt Wallander, who is also a humanist cultivated and engaging. Each novel by Mankell we learn more about the life of the hero (his divorce, his great love, his daughter, his father’s death) and its small cowardly. Before the freezing mark a turning point in the work of Swedish author as Wallander’s daughter, Linda, freshly out of the police academy, temporarily moved from his father before taking his post at the police in the small town of Istad. The relationship between father and daughter are explosive: they are also stubborn and poorly embouches one than the other! This time, Wallander is facing a series of macabre incidents: swans and a bull doused with petrol and burned bright; cathedrals burned. Wallander is worried, and his intuition is confirmed when we discovered the body of a woman, decapitated, hands trenches, joined as to pray, next to a Bible. From his side, Linda Wallander, eager to take his post, is shaken by the disappearance of an old friend and intrigued by his behavior when it reappears. Naturally, the investigations of the father and daughter eventually intersect and move to a strange sect of fanatical Christians.
Another novel well-written and well built for Henning Mankell who, in introducing the character of Linda, restores strength to his work.
The purporting
Mankell is perhaps the master of Swedish thriller, but the Ake Edwardson talonne closely, particularly with his latest novel, I wish that it would never end. If Edwardson shares with the author of Before freezing humanistic values and finding the dark about the future of Sweden, however, he staged a commissioner very different, Eric Winter, who is young, attractive and dandy. It may also be hard and sometimes violent. Officiant in Gothenburg, the second largest city in Sweden, he was in favour of teamwork and uses the skills of each of his men. This time, Winter investigation into the murder of a young girl found in a park, where another murder took place five years earlier. A third occurs and the pressure mounts: Winter offers little evidence, if it appears that the murderer used a leash. Tirelessly, the commissioner reads the file and interrogation until he finds a link between the three victims. The action accelerates and then a dark history of depravity, despair and madness emerges. The characters (even the secondary) are camped, writing is effective, the investigation is credible and exciting. What more could you ask for?
Aspirants
They are threefold: Hakan Nesser, Liza Marklund and Leif G. W. Persson, who is the most cynical. Its commissioner, Lars Martin Johansson, did not it the reputation of being “the only honest cop Swedish? Indeed, the police, in his novel The Night of February 28, is seriously compromised, and at all levels: incompetence, alcoholism, brutality and morality, everything happening. The author goes even Mankell on pikes to the scarcity of lovers of classical music or opera (as in Istad!) In the Swedish police. The story imagined by Persson begins with the suicide of an American journalist, at least that is what the police investigation has concluded. But how a shoe she could drop a few seconds later the body of that unfortunate, which had precipitated a tower, killing the dog of the net only witness? This thin wire that follow Johansson. The investigation will unveil a comprehensive history of corruption, espionage and compromise in which all strata of power are intertwined. The novelist is criminologist. He is familiar with the Stockholm police, and his fiction is based on a real event. It noted that Canadian politicians have no monopoly corpses in the cupboard! And one could even believe in closing this book, a few lines of cocaine are a frivolity!
The life free of Leopold Verhaven, ex-champion Sweden-country skiing disqualified for doping, will not last long. After being incarcerated for twenty-four years for the murder of two women, a crime which he has always claimed innocence, he was assassinated upon his release from prison. Van Veeteren The inspector in charge of the case, began to excavate the past rider and discovered large holes in the police investigation which led the athlete in prison. Then a monk to find actors then and shed light on this sordid affair. Hakan Nesser, the author of Return to the large shadow, we used a solid and credible investigation coupled with a good suspense.
Finally, an exception to the rule of procedure, Liza Marklund depicts a journalist, Annika Bengtzon, whose investigations reveal the great evils of Swedish society: pornography, fraud religious panic nurtured terrorism…. In Murder at the castle summer, Annika is expected to cover the murder of Michelle Carlsson, a large and eccentric star of the television. One reason more personal push to act: exonerate a friend accused of murder. It then plunges into the world of a “talk show” TV Tower summer, the kind of hollow spectacle issue which, under the guise of information, has only one target: the search for ratings Listening (Everyone talks about Swedish). Annika discovers a world of cynicism, jealousy and hatred, and eventually gets the real culprit. The heroin is endearing, writing is lively, the suspense well proportioned and the subject, explosive. In short, a good time reading!
It should be noted that Henning Mankell and Hakan Nesser saw their novels adapted to Swedish television. We hope that these series arrived a day on the other side of the Arctic Circle!
